- ✓ Type prefix: deep groove ball (6), angular contact (7), cylindrical roller (N/NU/NJ/NUP/NF), spherical roller (22/23), tapered roller (30/32), thrust (51/52/53), needle (NA/NK)
- ✓ Dimension series: diameter series (0-4) and width series
- ✓ Bore code: special codes 00-03, multiply-by-5 for 04+, /nn for exact bore
- ✓ Seal/shield suffixes: RS, 2RS, Z, 2Z, ZZ
- ✓ Clearance codes: C3, C4
- ✓ Cage types: M (brass), TN (polyamide), J (pressed steel)
- ✓ Precision classes: P5, P6
- ✓ Special features: E (reinforced), W (stainless), N (snap ring groove), NR (with snap ring)
Does not decode
- ✗ Manufacturer-specific proprietary suffixes (SKF, FAG, NSK, NTN internal codes beyond standard ISO suffixes)
- ✗ Whether the specific bearing size actually exists commercially
- ✗ Load ratings, speed limits, or application suitability
- ✗ Mounting or housing designations
